5 reasons to do a pre-wedding shoot

One of the most common questions that I get from clients is, “Do we really need a pre-wedding shoot?” The answer is YES! It’s what helps capture those romantic, candid shots that help tell your love story. So today, I’m sharing five reasons why you should definitely do a pre wedding photoshoot with your wedding photographer.

Why you need to have a pre wedding shoot

1. Celebrate your engagement

You’re getting married! Congrats! A pre-wedding shoot is a perfect excuse to celebrate the moment he put a ring on it. It’s also a great way to capture this significant event and the beginning of your new life together. The time that you’re engaged is a special and short time in your life. Make sure it’s documented for years to come!

2. Get to know your wedding photographer

Your wedding photographer is going to spend more time with you on your big day than anyone else. Having a pre-wedding shoot is a great way to get to know your wedding photographer, and get familiar with how they work, how they direct and interact with you. This way, when it comes to your wedding day, you will feel comfortable around them and you can relax knowing you can fully trust them to take the most beautiful photos of you.

3. Practice your posing

You want to feel comfortable and natural from your getting-ready photos to the second you walk into your reception. Having some practice shots taken together with your photographer beforehand is an excellent idea. This will give you some time to become comfortable in front of the camera, so you don’t have to be nervous at the actual wedding (which we all know is a huge distraction from enjoying yourself). When you’re feeling relaxed and natural, you can show your true personality through your poses and expressions. And as a result, your photos will come out better!

4. Enjoy quality time together

Having a pre wedding photoshoot is a nice chance to have quality time together, and make it a fun date night. It’s also a good excuse to get dressed up, have fun together, and have dinner afterwards.

You can do so many different things for a pre wedding shoot: take pictures at the beach, reminisce about your first date, or even have it done in Paris! Imagine taking a stroll through the streets of one of the most romantic cities in the world. Fun way to spend the weekend!

5. Have beautiful photos to use

There are many ways to use your engagement photos! Share them on social media for your engagement announcement, print them on your save-the-date cards, in your wedding guestbook, show a slideshow at your wedding, or display some prints at home!

To sum up: a pre wedding shoot is easy, fun, and super useful. I would encourage you to find the time to do one. Not only will the photos be amazing little treasures down the road, but they’ll give you a chance to experiment with how you want your wedding photos to look. And besides: who doesn’t love an excuse to get dressed up?!
